Exclusive: FunOrb Central Q&A

We recently sent a few questions of to Jagex HQ, and they’ve been so lovely as to answer them! There’s been a lot of discussion about FunOrb Central and we were keen to find out more about the project. So, a few days ago we sent them a couple of questions, they replied to our e-mail and the answers are finally in!

In the Q&A we’ve asked when FunOrb Central will be released, and how they’re doing in rectifying the technical issues. Find out the answers to these questions and more here.

Don’t forget that we’re looking for questions to ask Jagex in a few weeks, make some suggestions on the forums by posting here.

PayBySMS available in Singapore

We’re pleased to announce that our players from Singapore can now pay for membership of FunOrb by SMS. This means that you can purchase or renew membership using your mobile telephone. We know this is something that our Singaporean players have been waiting for, so we’re happy to be able to offer this service. If you’re a free player from Singapore, and want to know more about the benefits of membership, click here.

The following networks in Singapore support PayBySMS:

  • SingTel
  • Mobile One
  • StarHub

We’re continuing to look into ways of making alternative payment methods available in other countries, and as soon as we’re able to offer these services, we’ll let you know.

Zombie Dawn Multiplayer Update

More zombies, more humans, more mayhem! Zombie Dawn Multiplayer now has 16 new maps. We also have a new option for matches, allowing you to choose a random location for your battles. This should help even the odds, because no-one will be able to tell whether they’ll end up in a cramped mall, a crumbling prison, or the White House’s back yard.

We would also like to thank everyone who took part in the Zombie Dawn Multiplayer level design contest. Two of the ideas submitted were used as inspiration for levels in this update: Birdmaster’s winning prison level and Sven_58’s 2-player submission. Congratulations to both of you! Some other entrants may also see their maps come to light in the future, so keep them coming.

In addition to this, Zombie Dawn Multiplayer is now completely free to play. Any FunOrb user can now play Rated games, and research powers and traits to your heart’s content in every stage available. Go get your ‘Gotcha!’ Achievements; that should be fun to watch!

‘Bachelor Fridge’

Jagex applied to trademark the words Bachelor Fridge on the 30th June 2009. Very little is known about this recent development in FunOrb’s future. There are hundreds of questions waiting to be asked, and over the next few days, more information is expected to follow.

Could Bachelor Fridge be the title of a new FunOrb game? Or are they just applying for a trademark for the place where many Jagex employees store their food?

Arcanists: What do all the titles mean?

At the end of the game, you’ll notice that the players in your game will have been given titles, telling you about their game-play. If you’ve ever wondered which rank means what, this is the perfect guide for you!

Most Damage – Given to the player who caused the most damage.

Most Powerful – Issued to the player who used their spells the most effectively.

Most Minions – The title for the player who summoned the highest number of minions.

Most Kills – Given to the player who killed the most other players.

Most Skillful – A title for the player who got the most hits with their spells.

Minion Master – The player who used their minions the most effectively.

Most Wet – The person with the highest number of falls into the water (a minimum of two times)

Most Useless – Awarded to the player who caused the least damage.

Most Resilient
– Whoever took the most hits receives this title.

Most Cruel- The player who caused the least damage to themselves.

Most Honourable – The one who caused the most damage to themselves.

Most Annoying – The person who used the same spell the most.

Most Fit – The player who travels the furthest distance.

Most Bouncy – The player who jumped and bounced the most.

Dragon Master
– If summoned, the person who uses their dragon the best.

Imp Master – Given to the player who used their imps the most effectively.

Kickabout League!

It’s finally here!

The developers have emerged from beneath the mountain of feedback gained during the beta, and FunOrb’s latest offering, Kickabout League, is ready for everyone to play.

Kickabout League is a very ambitious project for FunOrb, using lots of new technology to bring you our first, fully real-time, online multiplayer game in the browser. On the surface, it’s five-a-side football, but at heart has more in common with arcade games than any real sport.

Customise your team, choose your kit, buy a pitch and get ready for action. The game also contains an online auction system allowing you to trade footballers with other FunOrb players. When you’re prepared, head to the multiplayer lobby to pummel, dodge and foul your opponents to win games and work your way to the top of the Diamond Division!

A fundamental limitation of real-time online interaction is that lag will always affect gameplay. This is mainly caused by the distance between the server and your computer. During the game, you can monitor your connection by pointing your cursor at the “lag-o-meter” bars next to player names in the bottom-right corner of the screen. A number below 150ms is recommended for the best experience; if this number gets above 200ms, things will start to deteriorate and your character will jump around other players’ screens.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll do our best to minimise this problem and improve the game in any way we can. Please leave lots of juicy feedback on the forums and, as always…have fun!

Jagex have recently started a stand-alone site for the hit FunOrb game ‘Arcanists’. You can find this site at www.arcanists.com.

Although it doesn’t appear that the site is fully finished yet, the assumption is that Jagex will make a news-post about the new site soon. Take a look at the image below.

Achievements Update

The long-awaited Achievement upgrade is here! There are a lot of things that have changed in the Achievements module, but most of these are hidden in our back-end servers. What you will see in the games is the following:

* Global Achievements* – These are Achievements that can be gained across all of FunOrb, rather than just from an individual game – Show Me the Icons is awarded for a total of 50 Achievements, for example. These are relatively limited at the moment and we will be adding more to these over the course of the year.
* “The Wall” – A single web page that shows icons of all the Achievements you’ve managed to accrue.
* More Arcanists Achievements – We’ve added a load of new Achievements to Arcanists for you to test your skills on, so get playing and have a go.
* More Brick-a-Brac Achievements – As we’ve updated Brick-a-Brac recently, we thought additional Achievements for the new level set would be appreciated, so here they are.

So, there you are, lots of new Achievements for you to get cracking on with. Let us know what you think. Other games will be having Achievements added over the coming weeks. As for our next release? Well, a certain sporting title might be just around the corner…
